Yep, it's a completely different language, in short. They both come from the same roots (Latin) but evolved separately. Would you say German and Dutch are the same? It's the same difference you find with those Roman languages.

Then it gets more complicated, cos the Spanish and Portuguese spoken in South America differ from the languages spoken in Europe. That's where you find differences similar to American/British English.

It's not because two languages sound similar to the untrained ear that they're the same!

Lol how does knowing what language is spoken in brazil afect your geography. neways spanish and portugese are similar.

Technically, the language with most users is Mandarin Chinese!
Not sure if it would be THAT useful for holiday in the sun...

Learning a language is a little more complex than being able to order a beer at the local taverna. It's got good side effects: I've been learning English for 28 years and gained a husband, two kids and a dog in the process! Can't be bad...

well my opinion on spanish is that if you ever go on holiday to spain, alot of the people that now live there are englishv - problem solved
