I have this idea that if they got a box that was oppie shaped, screwed a toe strap into the bottom of it, stick a mast and a sail in the front, pop it on a lake on a windy day, hey presto same job, more fun. Kids always prefer playing with the boxes anyway.
When they say you are too old you probably are, but do it anyway.

maybe there's less money in the RYA coffers now... so it's best filter off the weak earlier on than they used to.

Given that the school my children go to make them run through a field knee deep in mud twice a week (and one of my offspring actually enjoys it, the other not so much...) officially torturing children is still very much the done thing, so why not put them on the rack, too?

I've not looked - does it retail for enough to buy a small country with the money?

I built my own hiking bench when I was in oppies! Better to get fit then get hurt when you get tired out on the race course!

I think it was the Spartans, they also had the Agoge... which is a bit like RYA regional squad training in Lasers these days, except at least girls are allowed in- if they're butch enough.    Wink
