I would be kidding you if I said we had a production line but given enough lead time we could produce a 762. We will have to replace the demonstrator before too long. A budget figure for a new boat all-in and ready to race would be approx £28,000 - £30,000. We do have a Polish manufacturer  prepared to produce them depending on orders but none produced by them as yet.

Replacement components and repairs can be arranged through Rowan Yacht Services.

I know I've been rambling on about PY handicaps for the Projection for a while but now it gets serious!

If I'm to appeal our current handicap of 873 set by the Forth Yacht Clubs Association (FYCA) I need to do it in the next two weeks or so. It may affect other Projection owners racing on PY because the FYCA have a huge handicap database and are significant contributors to the setting of RYA keelboat handicaps!

We now have our own performance data from over 50 starts and 2000 miles of racing from the 2007 season (once the boat was in the water we didn't miss a single race) and by the end of the season had achieved 884. In order to appeal I'd be really grateful for handicapping 'evidence' from other Projection owners in the form of:

  • IRC figures (I already have existing ones from the forum) but preferably PY handicaps, plus sail configuration/ sail area if you know it
  • Proposed changes to PY handicaps for next season
  • Fleet sizes
  • Makeup of fleet, ie what types of boats are you competing against
  • Sailing Club, owner's name and boat name

If you prefer to PM me that's fine, but I think much of this info could be interesting/ useful for all of us.

Cheers!  Chic

Hi chic

You'll have our IRC and sail measurements from the certificate copy I posted a bit back. We're changing our configuration slightly with our new sails coming this season and I'll post here how that changes things.

Out our club, most of our racing is IRC (thank god). However we have a few events that the club encourages non-IRC boats to compete in and we use a "Club Handicap" which is essentially PY, though not in-name.

Upstart rates 888. The two races we did under club handicap this year are linked here (http://www.hpyc.com/race07/ny08.htm) and here (http://www.hpyc.com/race07/boxingday07.htm). They were boxing day and new years day - hence the low turnouts!

Tying the ratings to boat designs (and getting a few from other races we didn't do)

Projection 762 - 888

Grand Soleil 40 - 830

Cork 1720 - 844

Sunfast 37 - 869

Dehler 33 - 874

X332 - 863 / 870

Aphrodite 101 - 924

Contessa 33 - 940

To try and answer your other questions - fleets generally small for PY style racing as all major events run under IRC. Club is Haven Ports Yacht Club.

Hope that's some use, give me a shout if you need any more info

hi chic,

all our results are here, good range of boats, irc and py handicap systems used to score the races, so one race has two results.

http://www.dabchicks.org/CResults2007.php

"proper job" and "bananaman" 762's

friday night series is py only.

hope that helps

Thanks for that, there's some useful information on the Dabchicks website. I've managed to glean a little more from other clubs' sites too. Once I'm finished I'll post the compiled info for everyone.

I know most of you chaps are too far away for this to be of any interest, but...

Our club are tentatively going to allow non-member boats to join a few of our races this year. Our spring series will allow no-members and starts in april - about 15 to 20 boats with 2 projections at the moment.

Anybody got any fun summer projection plans yet? We're going to do Ramsgate week this year, spent far too much money on sails over the winter.

cheers Tim, was the sunday of Sail East, very windless event that one, about 4-5 knots max wind speed all weekend!

not sure if the new cert has come through yet, will keep you posted.  Hopefully going back in soon.
