eh? why would the wind at the trailer be more than at the anenometer? bearing in mind these are usually at the highest point of the club.

Yes - And the club anenometer no doubt said 52kts - but did this happen all over the boat park?  If so the wind was probably significantly more at the trailer itself.

I can assure you that it did happen! I even got a cut on my head from somewhere! I think there are pics of the destruction as 2 boats almost got sawn in half by the ropes they were tied down with, the stacker finished its gymnastic tumble upside down... and wait for it... a Boss got blown off its trailer!!!

We defiantly registered a constant 7 and King George.

I am somewhat suspicious of the 50 knot claim. As Tim said, at the cherub nats we had a 52 knot gust that pick up a fully loaded double stacker, completed several mid air flips narrowly missing Tim's head and it landed in a row boats.

I agree that most people do exagerrate but also many anenometers tend to undereread that sort of gust - I say that from experience of sustained F10 breeze at sea.
