In the light stuff the 49ers will be in sit on the foredeck mode whilst the 12s with their huge no1 rigs are likely to still be fairly powered up and wireing |

Hi Cherubby people, Just posted on another thread and realised that I've --- now brace yourselves --- never sailed a Cherub. There I've admitted it. A Cherub was very much on my must have list wwhen I was 15 but then Laser campaigns took me away from the true path! So how can I resolve this flaw in my sailing experience? I wondered if any of you are going to the event at Keilder next week (I think some of you did it last year) and if so, can I book a ride / blast? |

I am pretty sure that Phill Alderson will be there in his new(ish) beast. Best bet would be to PM Mr Granite and ask!

Phil and Carol Alderson will be there in Primal, and Will and Lucy Lee will be there in Atum Bomb. I've spoken to a few other people who are interested in having a go that weekend, and Will and Phil have both said it's not a problem. Simply go and make yourself known to them and they will be more than happy to help.

that is a really hig aspect kite with a really high clew weird shape. always wondered if there is enough room in a cherub to do a full on run wire to wire tacking with twin wires. always look really small. ( i am going to be shot down by saying that) |

We're not that agressive... Someone asked the same question at the weekend and the responce was that in the newer boats at least you dont tend to tack like you would in say an 800 where you can just run for the other wire because they are a lot narrower on the waterline so focussing on keeping the stick above the crew is more important. Assuming you have a fairly open cockpit layout and a good crew its certainly possible though |

I would agree in saying that it is possible to both tack wire to wire but it takes a bit of practise (and wind with the smaller rigged boats). Me and a previous crew got to the stage where we could tack wire to wire but it isn't easy. Due to the short length of the boat I have always found it very hard to tack gracefully in any sort of wind, you really have to dump the helm and go for it.
As for the high clew, i think that it is accentuated in that photo as it doesn't look wierd in the others! |

Not sure exactly what is meant by wire to wire tacking
But with the narrow racked Cherubs I think you need to get on and off the wire quickly, as when you are standing in the boat you are practicaly on the centerline. I unhook as I come into the boat and I aim to clip on comming through the boat and straight out. I do not allways get it first time but that is the plan. Just about anyone who has seen us tacking has said that the boat looks really small I am taking the boat down to Keilder and if you make yourself known to me Hector I am sure we can get you on the water Will Lee is planning on taking his boat and he is usually keen on getting people out on the water. Hopefully some others will make the trip |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Tom and I can twin wire to wire tack etc - its all just practice. General tend is as we tack, tom will go in, then I will follow (helming) as the boom crosses, and then we are both out on the wires again - following the same in the gybe! When the wind pipes up to a bit frisk (around 25-30 knots), ill usually go in from the wire 1st, to make sure I got complete control as Aqua is a lil 'frisky' to say the least! Just keep the speed up and its ok.
