Unfortunately 8-12 knots is a typical race... What you describe is our experience; we overtake the J80 in a blow but it's those average nights that cause us trouble... and not just with J80s!

Sweet. Never done Dabchicks before but it looks like a chuckle. And convenient too as it's only a little hop from Burnham which is where the boat will be the week before

I don't know if anyone can help... Our Tacktick speedo has packed up and I've traced the problem to the Airmar paddle-wheel sensor unit itself. The problem is it's an early 1998 vintage Tacktick Speedmaster and although Tacktick have been very helpful they aren't available anymore...

The current model although it will work needs a 50mm fitting and this one is 40mm - I don't want to take the boat out to cut a new hole if I can avoid it.

I wondered if anyone might have upgraded and have such an item in their garage that they might be prepared to sell?? I have attached a photo of the offending bit. It is held in place with a pin, not a screw-fitting.

Nemo will be at Burham week, ramsgate and dabchicks, hope to see as many projections as possible.

Ah well, it was worth a shot.. so thanks anyway slop idol.

We are hoping to do a bit of travelling next season so I'm frustrated at seeing all these Projections racing together. It's a long haul from Edinburgh though... Literally!

I hope you guys have fun, and you're welcome up here...

Hi chic, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas for you I'm afraid. When I fitted my tacktick recently (a 50mm fitting) I sold the old 40mm Airmar that was in there on eBay but it wasn't like the one in your picture.

Did a hilarious race in Upstart the other day - a pursuit race where you have to visit pubs instead of racing marks, towing a tender to get some crew ashore to go drinking. We didn't really have the right boat for it and the race committe clearly had it in for us as we were the last boat to start by miles, nearly 2 hours after the first boat!

To be fair though, the fleet was mainly cruisers who needed quite a headstart. Still, I can confirm a projection can get close to 10kts with an inflatable on the back. There's a pic below and loads more at www.eastcoastrivers.com.

And before anybody says anything the boat is being lifted and scrubbed before our next race!

I love it!

Maybe picking an inflatable with a planing hull (mini RIB) might make you more competitive, but you already seem to be moving well...

We reckon we had our fastest downwind leg ever on Sunday, almost dead downwind powered by a thundercloud. Unfortunately the GPS stopped reading at 14knots (dead speedo - see above) but then we went much faster. Who knows? 17 or 18knots? it's just speculation... We took the kite down before gybeing, I was scared something was going to break.

Thanks for your concern about the sensor, Tim. We were just trying to get through to the end of the season without taking the boat out again. Incidentally, the last time I cleaned the boat I leant it against a pier rather than craning out. It actually worked fine and was a lot more solid than I expected, however possibly not safe to go on board. I can post a picture if anyone would like to see.
