thats why after i applying wax to my boat i get more beading of the water droplets. however, i wax it in order to get a nice shine and make the boat look nice and in order to protect it. it also means when it gets t-cut the max is what is removed in order to be replaced with new, shiny wax but for outright speed just sand with the smoothest wet and dry you can find. it just looks dull afterwards.......... that said, hitting one wave wrong in a race will make more difference..... entirely up to you |

Waxing the hull with something like autoglym will help to prolong the life of the gelcoat, and preserve the colour too. Not so important on a white/grey boat, but on coloured hulls it makes a difference.

I guess that if you are going to use a wax polish on a custard coloured boat, you might as well check out the range of coloured ones available.........I thought that I'd be helpful and find out if Turtlewax do a yellow (don't think that they do, but I'm sure that I've seen something similar in Halfords) however I found that they've recently launched a range of Marine cleaners/polishes on their website - Clicky

Hi Adam, I only T-cut my hull after sanding the repairs down with 1200 grit wet and dry. gets it nice and shiny. To be honest polishing and stuff will make minute differences, and tactical decisions or bad tacks will make far more difference on the 600. If you are going to lymington I will look out for you, a yellow boat wont be too hard to spot. I've got purple progrip on the side decks, come and say Hi. |

Kinda along the same lines ... Whats best for bringing a dirty hull back up to colour again? (tyre marks from jettys, slightly off color gelcoat in areas from silly people strimming around my boat, and splattering the hull with chopped grass etc etc)
White gelcoat boat, tried Muc Off .... Didn't really have much effect. I'm not really after one of those superfast/"nano" coatings ... Just something that I can look at and think .. " oooh ... shiiiiiiiiny ... " Looking back through the thread, looks like Autoglym or a wax (turtlewax?) would do the trick ... But just looking for a few pointers before I go spending money! |

I can't get to any of the 600 events apart from the ones on the south coast.
