Wow, hardly sympathetic to country park, club needs a professional from RYA to fight this, club won't survive long with no boat park at all, sailing club must have a rough idea how many people use the existing car park, perhaps there is a new build going to appear close to this corner, can see another planning application appearing soon after car park finished, with one of the pluses being a large car park over the road, which can be accessed by a pedestrian crossing, which the builders will put in for free.

Rumour had it that anyone who fell in was advised to visit the hospital nicely located next to the pond. Still, there arent many leisure /sporting/outdoor locations in that patch so it's beyond stupid that the idiots at their local council are trying to close them down.

The water did look very gungy with lots of round brown objects floatingjust under the surface reminiscent of similar objects surrounding the sewage outfalls back home. Windsurfing was not permitted at most inland water just as kitesurfing isn't nowadays, the RYA had made this promise to us, that if we voted them as our Governing Body, all that would change, they lied, it didn't for many years and then when the London lakes opened up we were only permitted to use them in dry suits. Of course no dinghy sailor ever pee'd in his wetsuit during a capsize, or indeed in the gunhwales of the boat in long waits on the water in regattas, but we were sailings b**tard ginger step child and have been ever since. So beggars couldn't be choosers and we were grateful to Sutton, at least I was.

I recall the first time I tried a board as one of my pals bought one (probably an original windsurfer, I can't recall) to the club and let us have a go. I thought "I'm a half decent Laser sailor, how hard can this be) and spent the next few hours in the water feeling a bit embarrassed. But yes I do recall the anti board feeling around some of the clubs at the time. Feels sort of silly nowadays, but there you go.

As I made a comment on the Councils plans to remove large parts of the SASC boat park in favour of a public car park I got an email update this morning. The planning application is going to committee on 27th January with a recommendation to approve.   If I read the report correctly the planning officer seems to have concluded that the club and its group members (eg sea scouts, model yacht club) will remain viable post the loss of boat park space, though the Council have claimed to have offered alternate space. Seem to recall this was on the table before, and the club felt it was not viable. So this does not look good.

Nearest club is Ogston I think - about 10 miles away from Sutton-in-Ashfield (map). But if you live east or north of Mansfield, Ogston could be quite a trek.

Do the RYA even have a latter day equivalent of Edmund Whelan?

You can say that again, often wondered if you were related, isn't your name similar at least.

Looks like the local council have approved their own application.
