Probably right Mr L, would rather a yacht that could be launched rather than sitting on the mooring as we had before.
Pretty restricted with choice?

Is it the stability of the keel your after? What about a K2 sailing "dinghy"? Would have some closer on the water racing with the existing fleet

Really after the opportunity to race against keelboats, but have a bit of fun doing it.

Would have to be a vx one - it's brilliant, stable and fast - launches from a slip - but is in the the £20k's ... no problem to a man of your means - who needs a car anyway Wink

Are you looking at the K6 because it has a lifting keel (hence can launch in shallower water for low tide). Can it be sailed with the keel raised? Would you have the same issue? The only K6 I have seen is sailed at Bala where it is launched then tide up to put the sails on/drop the keel on the pontoon. Isn't there usually a davit to support a lifted keel in the boat which is removed once the keel is dropped.
Dare I say the Stratos has a version with a drop keel doesn't it, possibly more like a dinghy but would call it racey in any sense.

The K6 keel is lifted by a tackle that attaches to the mast.  All very well until, as I once witnessed, the mast falls down, then you can't get ashore because you can't raise the keel.  A collapsible, stowable, bipod gantry such as was used on Mark Giles' Orion is a better solution imho.

Speaking to a K6 owner today and I don't think the lowering / raising technique for the keel would suit our sailing area. A nice weighted centreboard like the Topper Breeze would be good.
I thought about the Stratos Keel but didn't think it would be allowed to race in our keelboat races.
Martin a VX or Viper 640 would be great but I don't think Mrs C would be happy.

Viper 640's are nice boats from what I have seen. Always thought they more an American boat. If your going for something that size, you are getting into SB3, small J's territory and looking probably at mini yachts rather than keeled 'dinghies'. How do the other keel boats launch? or are they moored up.

They are moored, it is only a very small fleet and they are craned in at the start of the season and craned out at the end.

I have had keelboats which are moored previously but I would like a bit more flexibility to be able to take in and out after a sail.
