I can't see ex-Finn medalist and current president of the IOC, Jacques Rogge, condoning that type of talk... hey Rodney?

Well news buzzing the inter web this morning is of the IOC not being happy at all with ISAF for reversing their decision, with the reminder that sailing is boring and the idea was to jazz up the format to make it more watchable, so they can rake in more TV bucks.
So maybe they'll have to chuck those Finnboys out after all to make way for a kite medal. |

actually the sensible decision would be to chuck both out and keep the Elliot match racing and add a men's match racer or retain the star based on a straight demographic vote. There are far more people around the world who race on keelboats than on kites and windsurfers combined.
Windsurfing and kitesurfing- neither are truly represented by ISAF 'board sailing', with or without the mast, raced on grotesquely large boards that no one would want to actually choose for fun. However I don't deny that there could be an argument for slalom and/or freestyle kite and windsurfing, just not under ISAF jurisdiction and the restrictions implied by the geography of the sailing regatta. However the IKA are riding coat tails rather than speaking with the IOC directly and I don't think there's even a credible windsurfing organisation out there who could engage with the IOC.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

'The Spanish Sailing Federation has since acknowledged that its representative voted for kiteboarding by mistake'.
Sound like an easy mistake to make?!

Well I think it's great news - not necessarily because of a dislike of Kitesurfing, but because of the way the decision was made, seemingly overnight with little or no consultation, to eject a whole sport.
I'm sure thee will be a place in the Olympics for Kitesurfing in the future, but this should only be in addition to the current catagories, IMHO.

It's back! Having seen the kitesurfing race video one can only feel a sense of relief, or am I just an old fuddy duddy out of touch?
