If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

the tricky bit of moth foiling is not keeping the hull flying above water, but keeping the lift foil below the surface.

by having the main lift foil on the daggerboard only halfway up the board = half the height to fly in = twice as difficult!

And no height control ? ( flap or pivoting foil? )

foil looks a bit small to fly the boat, so maybe it's intended to lift the boat rather than fully fly it.

ye because lifting the boat and not flying the boat would create less drag and potentialy be faster.

[QUOTE=Jack Sparrow] Shiny Beast ( pro boatbuilder/foil maker, sails all the time )

USED to sail all the time.... not so much recently, but has many hours of sailing over many years .

[QUOTE=Jim C]
I think Andy Paterson put together better campaigns and sailed at a better crew weight, but I'm not convinced his boat is intrinsically quicker overall.

Heavier than ususal new crew this year ( 24 stone total )

but faster on average..... Nationals recently have been mostly light winds, some medium, and a few strong winds.

might work...... the balance of drag from less diplacement and more foil drag will be close.... testing will soon show!

By not fully lifting may make it faster, same as how a t-foil on the rudder works. More force on foil = less on hull, but saying that the net result will be alot faster if the entire boat flew, then there is NO resistance from the hull. I could calculate it all out if you wanted, but my brains sore as it is from Mechanics coursework ive just finished! Arrr, sailing tomor will sort that out!

Yeah i think your right Ed, if you put foils which are the right angle etc, it will lift the hull slightly in the water thus creating less drag on the hull, so i guess you would go faster! hmm hot sure if it would be noticable? Lol if whaam wasnt so darn heavy we could get her flying
