Indeed.  No doubt there are sailing committees across the UK being asked by their members "If HISC did it, why cant we?"

My own club - 5 slipways.  Maximum 6 people on each slipway at a time.
You can adhoc organise whatever racing you want on the water within the 6 people rules.

I think they've taken it as far as they can within the rules.

If HISC's local constabulary have ignored them, that doesn't mean ours would.  Would it result in a criminal record? Probably not. My local cops said they'd provide advice and only taking enforcement action if advice ignored.   Would I want to take a chance?  No.

C'mon children.  ;-)

"The Law" could never take into account all the various nuances for each and every sport, as it was laid down in a very short time without the usual due consideration required for construct - but we all know what the intent was. So reverting to the letter of the law as interpretation was always bound to fail and cause confusion.

HISC pushed the boundaries a bit far IMHO, even if they can - weakly - justify it. Thats fine.  Being a rebel was always my achilles heel too. Its them thats in the spotlight, not you or me.

The saga will blow over, HISC will maybe reflect a bit, life will go on for us sailors. July will soon be here when, we hope, the shackles will be less shackled

As another poster pointed out, racing isnt the be all and end all. It isnt life or death. Patience is a virture. It will all soon arrive in a legitimate way. Why so much angst and emotion and personal insult is beyond me .....

It's not the police that are the problem. The thing that I have a problem with - that is not a problem at any of the other clubs I know of that have started racing - is that firstly HISC is very visible and mainly that there are many other clubs sharing the water under one harbour commission.

If HISC screw up, the harbour council might get pressured into taking action and this could affect every other club in the harbour. All because they decided to crow about it and couldn't wait for two weeks........

If South Cerney's people screw up it only affects that club.

It will blow over and it needs to, but I think the rest of the sport could do with hearing a little humility and an assurance that lessons have been learned.

You’re assuming that the other chi fed clubs aren’t doing similar racing activity....

Well, if they are they aren't doing it in the face of everyone, they are keeping it quiet and low key. They are doing it correctly.

They are not running the Corona cup, with 50 odd boats under the noses of a group of people they have just peed off.

All they needed to do was wait until July 4th.

Hisc is foremost a commercial club and accordingly has different priorities. Don't think other clubs in the area will be feeling the same pressures to resume racing.

Competetive fishing forums are notoriously angry with anything that competes or interferes with their use of the water. Mind you, so are sail racing forums. Both groups are competitive folk by nature.

There are loads of clubs racing and publishing it. A recent flick through FB would show that the Foxers on Hamble are racing twice a week with results posted since mid-May, St Mawes are out there, the various Finn groups in Chi Harbour are out training and posting videos of plenty more than six boats, the list could go on. I suspect that there are many more but most are not being as public as HISC and as many - including me - have said, calling it the "Corona Cup" was a really bad idea.
