That depends on how the club runs. At my current Club the VC is the chair of the Sailing Committee, and the Commodore is chair of the general committee

I think every club will use different titles in different jobs so worth asking for a job description before taking it on.
If they don't have one for each position on the committee then I would suggest getting them done helps people in the future. (Could be your first job) It should make them realise what each job entails and may encourage the right people in the right jobs, rather than anyone they can push into it.

They're probably looking at it as a step up into the Commodore role, I guess it depends what your VC does, have you asked for a job spec? Our VC chairs the alleged 'house' committee, which means he doesn't and has to do all the dogsbody jobs surrounding the upkeep of the club and it's various boats and assets.

Spot on iGRF, that's why I mentioned Bosun, should be okay though if there is a decent Bosun team, I would still try for sailing

Seems that VC in our club chairs the sailing committee and in addition has to field all external enquiries that come in from the website plus has to attend the Exec meetings 4x per year. Seems doable frankly
