And to take a metaphor from your earlier post, Mick Jagger would not win a beauty contest.
You are almost certainly right, Turner, Rowsell etc would not 'publicly deride someone else's creation', not least because it might be seen as sour grapes, not to mention unbecoming. I have no such inhibitions, for better or worse. The Flying 10 was a great boat, taken as a whole, but in my considered opinion there were several more worthy contenders for the Concours title. [apologies once again to the builders of the Flying 10].

One boat I didn't get to look at in more than passing at the show (I was being dragged away by the daughter) was the Fusion. Impression from a glance was that it looked somewhat different from its rivals. Anyone got any photos, please?

That is rather mean spirited of you. The H2 was not eligible as it had not been on the water. See rules of qualification for the Concours d'Elegance.

I had no idea whether the rather good looking H2 had been floated. It was, I admit, a slightly mean spirited question (a reaction to your views on the Flying 10) but actually, the boat could easily have done well - no sarcasm on that front.

Agree Mick is no looker in conventional terms but he has had his results alright. Candour and Fuller esque lack of  PC ness noted and understood. There is rarely any shortage of exuisite craftsmanship on offer at the show alright.

I think we can agree on that and perhaps have a metaphorical 'shake hands' on this.

The kids and I had a great day at the Show.  Saw so many old friends and admired some great boats and products.  And keyed into some inspiring stuff with sailors and simulators.

In defence of the lads who built the Flying Ten, I think what they did was brilliant. They weren't there to tout their wares as professional dinghy builders. They were big boat shipwrights showing off a labour of love that they'd built from scraps in their workshop. The fact they did it all by hand from the spruce mast to casting the iron keel should be applauded. So what if there were imperfections in its construction. Plenty of production boats on display were flawed, including the H2's cockpit non-slip which showed the peel ply had bridged. I'm disgusted by Keith's attitude but Daniel has said all I want to say on that subject.
