Good god no, lasers are horrible to sail. It's odd, the few goes I've had in a
GP14, I liked the way it sailed upwind and enjoyed tacking it. It's a far far
better feeling and I found it a lot more rewarding than a 29er going upwind.

Lasers are very physically rewarding I find and you can pretty much garentee fleet racing where ever you go (with a few exceptions)

Hey that's what is great about our sport - variety. There's something for everyone.

I've never felt the urge to twin wiring. I loved my Fireball. I was rubbish but I still love the boat. I've not done much big boat stuff and not really enjoyed it, but sailing an FF is something that everyone should try - just the best boat to crew and just watch how it moves through the water.

Doug I know exactly what you mean about the GP14 upwind. It's a great boat to drive upwind.

I spent my formative years on the Laser circuit and won't have a word said against them - I stopped trying to climb up the ladder when the orange juice started appearing apres sailing.

I'll have a go in anything. It's all sailing and any sailing is better than no sailing.

Musto sailing doesn't appeal to me but I can see the appeal. I  didn't get B14's until I had a go in one - what a hoot! But I won't have one.

Sailing is great and there isn't a right or wrong boat to go sailing in.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Well the other boat I sail is a Mirror. So I also enjoy a variety of speeds with my sailing.  I posted the pic as I wondered what interest they would be in a smaller size B14 style boat.

I happen to have just had built one such craft.

Smaller in what way? That pic looks like a narrower boat. Though when you
say b14 style, does that mean it's not necessarily 14ft long?
What are the dimensions, and what are your performance goals of the
dimensions you're using?
Do we get any hull shape shots?

If I recall correctly, it's actually a Cherub hull, yes? Think this is intended to be the middle of the three "modes"- I remember something about also being able to turn it into a trimaran for pottering around.

Yes, 3.7m long. 2.7m wide max beam. 90cm chine. 13.5 white sail. 16.5 kite.
Performance goals: Fun.
And yes it's the middle of 3 or so modes the last being a trimaran.

Design rational;  I liked sailing N12's, I like sailing Cheurbs more, I like sailing with my son, I like the club we sail at, the club doesn't like twin wires. So make a small, fast and lightweight boat that I can sail with my son in different ways at different locations to equal maximum return on investment.

And then I thought there isn't anything in this design space ( 2 person performance lightweights hiking assy ( pic above ) and I wondered what peoples thoughts were on the idea?

Nice work chief!
So does it still qualify as a cherub if you stick smaller wings on?

Was it made over a male tool? How long did it take? How much does it weigh?

You got the tri floats and beams done yet? Presumably they will integrate with the wing tubes?!

What age is your lad? Guessing quite young, although I don't know how demanding crwing a B14 is.

Sorry for all the questions. Don't be shy with the pics..

Dan

Have you tried a B14, why not get an older B14 cutting an old suit of sails down until your boys gets a bit bigger............?
