So is this a singlehander with a jib, or will the foils support two crew members? Do you still have to wade out, capsize and stick them in from underneath, or can it be launched like a normal boat? All will become clear at the Dinghy Show, I guess. |

So Ovingtons are the first to step in with a mass market hiking foiler.
Looking at the pic, I assume that the tomahawk foils dont use a wand ! So how are RS going to respond; Winged foiling vareo perhaps? |

Is that photo real? Where is the port side of the transom?

Yes but the 600ff is a trapeze boat.
Surely a foiler for the masses would accomodate those who prefer to sit down! |

Peaky,
Looking at the pic, id say the transom is curved forwards from the rudder pin to the gunwhales, hence you cant see the far side of the transom, plus its slightly obscured by the blended rudder post. |

I don't think at this stage anyone needs two foilers in their range ... so I guess RS have plumbed for the trap. version. Do we think foiling is set to be a mainstream part of sailing?

The transom will be V shaped. I think it's a solid rudder gantry.

I dont think foiling will ever become mainstream, as most sailors in the UK dont sail in locations that are particularly suited to it. Development will continue helped of course by the Moth class and will filter out but I'm guessing that we arent going to see a proliferation of foiling classes with massive nationals turnouts. There is obviously a lot of interest at the moment in foiling but I think most of it is voyeurism and wont lead to a mass exodus into foiling dinghies, after all we didnt all go out and buy 18ft Skiffs when the one design boats started getting all the press.
The other issue is how many new classes do we need. I would suggest none! perhaps as we've discussed before, wrapping similar boats together should happen with Moths, 600ff and Tomahawk all racing off scratch, hopefully like we will at Chew with the MPS and 700s next weekend !!!! I only mentioned RS trying a foiling vareo in jest as RS and Ovington do seem intent on flooding every little niche in the market. |
