You are inferring that there is some bizarre group at the RYA who are manipulating the data because they don't like a particular class.
It's just data that gets processed. Read how it's done, it's all there on the py website

I'm inferring that, prove me wrong. If not a bizarre group, they're simply inland nerds with a crap algorithm and a cavalier attitude to an already unpopular system.

Simon w99 just forget it. Hes not worth it.
It's either the rya fault for fiddling the figures or the rya fault for not fiddling the figures. Take your pick. I for one am just going to enjoy racing with my friends. :)

2013 WANDERER 1150

I wonder what this years will be????

OK so its 1160 in 2014, I know that there are contributors to this forum well informed about how the system works, and I stress that I do not want to imply there is anything wrong. However, 28 points is a lump over quite a short period.

I suspect that this is as a result of a dearth of returns resulting in changes getting magnified, if that is the case shouldn't there be a minimum number of returns before changes get made?

I also recognise that there can't be many wanderers racing so it has little impact. In my case it just makes beating him on handicap all the more rewarding.

I also note its a bit sad answering your own posts !!

Well you're lucky, my friend is not going to enjoy his racing this coming season and nor are many Phantom sailors and as to Icon owners who have little choice else, how's their year going to be?

But who cares, it's only handicap racing and the computer can't be wrong.

Then again there's a well known saying in the computer world, put garbage in you'll only get garbage out.

So what should we do about it? Form another group? Set a rival system up? Expecting individual clubs to set their own handicaps is abrogating responsibility, so maybe a group of clubs or individuals should declare UDI from this mess.

Given how rarely I could beat the Phantoms that sail at our club (and am able to stay with the helms when they are sailing other boats, at least half the time) then I'm not convinced the Phantom result is some major plot to stop the sale of Phantoms. I could equally claim that the Lightning handicap has been a bit harsh until recently, and my sailing has been ruined, ruined, I tell you. I've cried into my pillow at night...

The brand new merlin at our club (sailed by an ex Phantom sailor) has yet to beat a phantom in a race.

FFS, if the handicap on the list doesn't suit the type of water where that boat sails, get together with other clubs with that kind of water and share thoughts on it, and come up with a handicap which that data supports. Or, just stick a finger in the air and add a few points - statistically probably about as valid.

No wonder Baz and Chris have given up replying to these threads - you constantly imply they have a sinister agenda and fiddle stuff, or they are sticking too closely to the stats, and should be trying to promote classes (though when you thought they were doing that for the Laser, it was a bad thing?).

Rupert it's because of the water you lot sail on, on the sea a Merlin will be half a beat ahead before the first mark.

So what happens inland is setting rules for the coast.

To be fair, they haven't owned it long - I'm sure they will get quicker, but they really aren't going to be very different in speed round a course.
