£69 for a 4 day Nationals would be pretty reasonable, but maybe not for what you describe, depending upon what the sailor wants to get out of a long weekend. The Lightning Nationals at Northampton have been £20 for 2 days including camping, and the chance to bomb around on Friday if you can get there in time, which puts it in perspective, though I'd expect to double that for a sea venue because of added safety boat costs and higher club overheads.

Rupert

I think your being unrealistic on the sea £40 for four day Nationals, Phantoms £100 but to be fair that includes lots of free food and the last three I have been to every boat comes away with something.

No, £40 for a 2 day event - as I said, £70 would be pretty good for a 4 day event, but it was actually 2 days of Nationals.

The reality is coastal events need reasonable size ribs and quite a few,  typically each burning £50 + day in fuel alone before you even look at other costs.

The SailFest entry fee was £69 for three days racing,  but although the Byte Nationals were over two days,  they could have raced on day 3 as part of their entry fee.

Yes of course Simon and seen like that it is a reasonable entry fee, but my 'boys' had a long drive and we drifted down on Friday and drifted home on Monday. Just two days racing...perhaps there should be a scale of fees?  The 'Booterscooter' clan took advantage of all that was on offer meaning that for them it was a bargain.

Let me reiterate......I am not being just grumpy but constructive.

Why did the Bytes only sail two days?

Byte Nationals only a two day event. Sailfest took place over four days. Coaching on Friday and pursuitrace on Monday....however it did not quite work out like that.

It seems to me that maybe you just need to organise a 2 day nationals for the bytes on another weekend.

It sounds like Sailfest did exactly what it said on the tin, subject to the variability that the weather risks can always bring to this sport of ours, but you wanted something different.

Sailfest is a great idea, last year was better, more boats and WPNSA. It can give a big racing atmosphere for small classes. I am the first to acknowledge how difficult it all is.
