Add a few more parameters...

Where do you sail?
How fast do you want to go?
what's your experience?
Trapezes, wings? third sails?

As far as I can see, watching the top Moth boys, their boats are quite controllable for them, but maybe not for you... You are in UAE are you? I'm not sure what boats are sailed there.

Top Moths yes... But if you know who Antony Chapman is, he is a pretty good sailor but recently got a moth, he has A LOT of wipe outs.

edit: that is guessing you mean foiling moth..

RS-Vareo: hiking boat like a Laser, and with an Asymmetric kite for those down-wind thrills.

Would be interested to see where this thread goes.

For singlehanders, the RS range has a little more to offer. The Vareo, 300, 600, or 700 are available for those looking to move up. If you can get over to Burghfield for test sails then I would probably recommend it.

Topper doesnt have anything to offer singlehanders and Laser only has the Vago which isnt a true singlehander boat.

Then the contenders, international canoes and Musto's are a stepping stone from the above.

Are there any other boats out there for singlehanders after the Laser?

It depends what you mean by 'after a Laser', whether it's something that's like a Laser but faster (Blaze, RS300 etc) or adding an extra challenge like a kite and or trapeze.

I think all the usual options have been mentioned, best advice is have a few test sails and see what floats yer boat

Well i went from a laser to briefly helming a 4000 then straight into a 600.

I had almost no trapeze experiance and if i'm honest was pretty rubbish in the laser and not very good in the 4000!! But now i'm loving life in the 600, if you dont mind getting abit wet at first then its an awesome boat!!

The guys on the circuit are really helpful and really friendy if you consider taking it that far. I probably learnt more in my first two opens than i did in 6 months of the boat!!

I know i'm kind of biased as i have one but i would highly recommend it!

hiking or trapeze?

kite or unarig?

weight?

sailing area?

first cost and annual budget?

There's a load of choice out there.

At my club the fashion went from lasers to varios to asymetric canoes and RS700s with the odd Musto Skiff and RS300.  The RS700 isn't as threatening as it looks in fact and something of a dream down wind, especially if you're already ok on trapeze and asymetrics, but the first cost and insurance are a little scary and the standard of sailors is pretty high.
