I'm more interested in the deck layout to be honest...

Funny how people think the flat bow = not fast, when the flat bit isn't usually in the water. Maybe not aerodynamic, but think of a Fireball! (James )

You'll see its fast when you try it! 3-Digit PY - Gotta be quick! ( When I get the mast set up for a bit of power!!! )

And is it just me or does that mirror in that pic look about 3 ft long and 4 ft wide??

The most radical development is the interior.  Top dinghy designer Phil Morrison,  has been commissioned to redesign this to simplify manufacture

I notice there's a platform behind the daggerboard case, is a centre main going to be allowed?

The chamfered edge to the bouyancy tanks should make it a bit more comfortable to sit out.

That'll be a bugger in the light stuff for the crew. Nice main sheet dragging over there neck no matter how small they are.

Chamfered tank edges do look good, also looks like slightly less buoyancy in the fore and aft tanks to accommodate this?

I noticed the changes to the fore and aft tanks too, I wondered if it was done to increase the stiffness of what would otherwise be quite a large flat(ish) moulding. It looks good too, I think the new layout and rig keep the design looking up to date and modern.

By the way Simon, do you know if Mirror 64031 is still around? My dad built it in about 1980 with a little bit of my help (or more likely hinderence) and I spent many happy hours in it.

I believe centre main and GNAVs have already been given the ok.

Yes indeed centre mains were approved for use this year,  and are already proving popular with juniors.  By moving the kicker to the base of the mast there is still room for the crew,  although personally I prefer the traditional setup for max room.

For ultimate room you can also have a GNAV,  although the verdict is still out on if this is a fast way to go.

The new fore and aft decks are dished,  with the aim of reducing some of the buoyancy.  With foam sandwich stiffness is not really a problem with flat panels,  the MK2 FRP Mirrors (pictured) are very stiff.

No. 5 -  sorry searched all the Mirror databases and cannot find details of Mirror 64031

a far cry from the home build competitive boats of the past.

i guess thats why the class has adopted these changes as those boats are in the past and everything needs to move forward.

how do the costs compare with competitive boats of past? is there a large hike in price with all the new modifications? will this put the club mirror sailor off joining the class/changing boat?
