It was a great weekend with pretty good conditions that suited us. Got 3rd in class 2 and managed to beat a few X332s over the water which we really didn't expect!

There's a Y&Y report - http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/?article=136582

Last weekend saw Projections competing well under IRC with Pink Gin taking the SW IRC Championship ahead of well known Corby 29 & Laser 28.

The photo shows her blasting to victory on the final day of the 3 day event, but the key to success was solid results in the lighter conditions.

Has anybody got their TackTick over 17 knots yet

Well done guys , there is hope for us up north still !

nice pic  ...

We have managed a second to date but competition was down a bit .

We have a problem with our pole in a medium or more breeze , my foredeck young lady after hoisting kite , struggles to push pole  forward as necessary  ( needs more wheetabix? )  ,  a lot of boats have  pole down haul in middle of foredeck , which allows pole to  not  go too far back  or  down haul can  be  used  to  help it fwd ,  do we  all have  haul  point  at  base of mast ?  would it be a poss to move haul point into centre  of f deck ?  would this cause other probs ?   or should we not have this prob in the first place ?

Thanks ,  Doug   7632

That's a great pic garth! Good to see projections going well - still really struggling to perform in the light stuff myself.

We have our pole downhaul at the base of the mast and it really isn't satisfactory. It's ok when flying a symmetric kite but when we use our asy (which is most of the time) we have the heel end of the pole a lot lower and it's really hard to keep the toe end steady with the rope angles available. I know Nigel Theadom moved his downhaul fairlead forward and that photo of Hobbe's Express (http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/photos/?s=64&PID=16711) shows them moved forward. Going to do it to Upstart in the winter.

Has anybody put a turning block at the aft end of the genoa track? We've been getting a few riding turns on the primary winches and we reckon that would sort it out.

Brilliant picture!

'Hobbes Express' is in fact Nigel's old boat, so that would explain the pole downhaul position... We sail her now so if anyone would like pictures of Nigel's modifications I'd be happy to oblige.

The pole downhaul is rock-solid in all conditions we've had so far. The only problem is that when the pole has to come back someone has to adjust the downhaul at the same time, since the distance between the pole and fixing point varies depending on the pole angle. We haven't had the chance to use Nigel's assy kite yet, we have still to get our heads around it - it would be good to get some practice in first before racing.

Nigel had put some vertical turning blocks just aft of the genoa tracks - we haven't had any problems with riding turns, works a treat...

So far we have struggled in light winds too, particularly downwind. In strong winds we're quick in both directions. Haven't hit 17knots yet but it's just a question of time!

Chic

If you move the pole foreguy forwards (essential for an Assymentric) you will need to release the foreguy before the pole will stow. As a safety measure fit a snapshackle to the foreguy so that the bowman can just trip it off the pole if the cockpit crew foreget or have their hands full. Likewise someone will need to tension the foreguy before the pole skies on the hoist

Genoa turning blocks - we fitted Harken part no. 1986  - worked fine

Lastly, just found some personal messages - didn't know that the facility existed so my apologies to anyone that didn't get a reply - always best to E mail to nigel@rigmagic.co.uk

All I can say chic is get the asy out straight away! We had our new one out for Port of Felixstowe and we're delighted with it. Much more forwards and less sideways when it starts to blow. In fact we only use the symmetric now for going really deep if we're having to gybe.

Hi Guys ,

interesting ... Chic , I would be most happy to get pics of any mods ... please !

doug@webnet2000.net

We have had a few riding turns also ..... more bits to buy I suppose ,

So , should we get an assy as well ?  while we are on with the new blocks ?

Any one done a mod to stop the water going straight into kite bag when we take a large wave over deck ?

Doug .

Closing the hatch tends to keep the sea out! To be fair though we often have plenty of pumping to do after the race if the breeze has been up.
