They werent banned in the recent vote but with a result of 18-11 there are a lot of people out there who seem to think thats too far development wise...

Interestingly the proposal NOT to lower the minumum weight was passed.

Most modern 14s are made with a lot of lead in them so they weight normally about 60ish kilos. i.e kate nurton and archie masseys etc.

What's the point of making the boat that much below the min. weight and then filling it with useless weight?

It would be better to use the weight to make the boat stronger/stiffer.

A brand new 14 stu will be much stronger than a new cherub or indeed your 12ft skiff even at 15kgs under! New 14s have up to and over 40 sometime on a loos gaugue in tensions. So im sure they are stiff enough

40? Is that it?

Strawberry carries 450lbs!!!

I'm pleased to see you have such a fantastic understanding of how to read and interpret you're tension guage. That was a good buy!

40 on the side stu in black writing not 40 lbs. The rid would just fall ove with 40lbs  . Oh and 40 is about 800 lbs according to the front of my loos gauge box
So yes i do have a fair idea how to read a loos gauge

Putting lead in means you can put the weight where you want it (i.e. centre of the boat)

Life's a reach, then you gybe

Or put it onto strings and move it around the boat dependant on the point of sail - active trimming
