Sculling, that would  be interesting the mersey!

Dont quote me on this but i think that DLR is more than weight by length.  Its something like the "long weight" which is metric ton x 1.016 / (0.01 x water line length in FEET) 3ed.

PJ your boats fairly heavy, you have a small kite.  Have you got a cert this year??

f word, i thought i had to be more complicated than just length to weight ratio like the name implies.  couldnt get any sense from the irc rating site.

i think pj is middle of the road when it coems to weight, until others are weighed i can only guess thats the case.

we havent got a cert this year as we've got alot to do to get pj ready and havent had alot of time off to do it in, as per usual.  with the 38m kite we def had issues downwind against 762s with larger kites than us, bannaman has a 50m and usually leaves us downhill.  we have purchased through this forum a big kite for this year, but are yet to amend the cert.  was thinking of getting weighed but have decided with the bill payer that its not worth it this season.

i will re scan the new one asap.

edit:

managed to find the metric calculation for DLR,

DLR=(27.87*IRC DISPLACEMENT)/LWP^3

Olly

Take PJ down to Dengie Hundred weigh bridge before you launch, then the car and trailer back afterwards, For £9.00 you can get the balance weight of your boat. It is very approx to the nearest kilo... but is and easy option for the crouch/blackwater.

Insidentally F word we have sculled your Boat up the crouch with a four knot oncoming spring tide! Was slow but we did get there...

mike,  i have been thinking about that, there a few local weigh bridges we can use so hopefully i'll get a chance to do that.  we are antifouling above our waterline this year - we are putting the bootline back in-  always seem to get weed growth coming up so hopefully this will put a stop to it.  does mean we lose our chav 3 srtipes from down the hull though, shame.

Oli (and any other east coast proj sailors)

The haven series (www.havenseries.org) have lowered the saftey category for their Harwich - Lowestoft drag race from 3 to 4. Which means Upstart is definitely doing it, especially if it blows from the SW like it always seems to. Fancy coming out to play? We're hoping the proj round here (White Lightning) comes out too.

Yeah, we're doing felixstowe and crouch sail east this year. Can't do the others because they clash with offshore sadly. No regatta week because we're all doing the fastnet.

You coming to felixstowe this year? It's the East Coast IRCs and usually a good laugh!

fastnet is a hoot, lots of bars to explore after....

hopefully we'll get up there, shouldnt have any excuses this year for boat handling etc so we'll have something to prove.
