D'etente - not quite sure if I agree with the logic about buying the latest ones if they are indeed lighter.  I think a heavier boat with a rating of .954 would be hugely more competitive under IRC than a lighter one with a rating of .970.

Would be really good for FWord to scan his certificate as .954 looks an amazing result even if the boat is 150kg heavier than usual.

Anyone making a 70kg bulb?

Firstly a belated thanks to Detente for his headsail info. I've been following the thread but haven't had time to respond...

Weighing Hobbes will be a major headache - as far as I'm aware there is only one RORC measurer in Scotland and he's based on the West Coast. My plan is to take Hobbes to a local weighbridge just to find out whether endorsed weighing is a serious option. Looks like we're going to get an SBR rating not IRC anyway, so I don't know whether or not that info will be useful to the group, but I'd be quite happy to post that one if anyone expresses an interest when it's ready.

easiest option for any light 762 to gain weight in the right place would probably be to swap to a 1720 keel, they weigh 80kg more than the 762.

chic any and all info would be welcome

Apologies I have pasted in my cert but for some reason I cant scan it.  If anyone emails me andy@bluepointconstruction.co.uk I will send you the original.

PJ I think you are missing the point a bit about Cork week etc mate.  The data you require you already have, its in your boat and you need to extract it.  The measured info will change all the hull data that rorc have on file from estimates (which are not likely to be in your favour).    If your boat gets weighed and fully measured its likely reduce your TCF. (dont quote me on that though!).  It cost me about £300 with ticket.

F Word (old Nemo) was weighed with 4 cushions, battery, min fuel in 4hp outboard, boat has floorboards and fixed wooden headlining and interior.  No fenders, sheets, sail, covers, winch handles etc etc. With regards to yachts diffrent weights, I believe its mostly the keels.  Steve Thomas told me there was a few diffrent keel designs, which could explain things.  Also, lets be honest we arent talking Americas cup precision here, they only made 30 odd.  Perhaps the lay up varies substantially.  My boat is incredibly solid, none of the cracks around the internal posts mentioned earlier in this forum.

Sorry thats all jumbled!

On a diffrent "tack"!.  WHy is the 762's SSS rating of 12 so low?  Does anyone know if the STIX rating is the same scale etc and would be the same number.  I am looking at the cat 3 regs and boat complies with pretty much all, (you get allowances at 25ft for a bucket and bottled water etc).  We have fixed DSC VHF, fire ex x 2, flares, rails comply, nav lights, charging from engine, stove  etc.

We also have a large bouyancy tank in the bow, do all 762's have these?

What do other boats do for emergency rudder,  Mine has what appears to be a rollock fitting in the stern.  Can you put a paddle over the back??  Or do you put the outboard on?

I plan to do a few coastal races in summer.  Also thinking (if forecast is good) liverpool to Isle of Mann race (70 miles).  And may do delivery from holyhead to dublin (50 miles).  All offshore in company with other boats.

Any thoughts?

Good race on Sunday, very flukey.  Prima 38 (1.081 rating) retired after 1 hr (we were next to them!), J122 (1.089) finished just in front of us on the water, 1200secs behind on corrected and beny 34.7 (1.004) finished 9 mins behind on water.  600k's worth of carbon rigged big boats thrashed by something 5% of their value!

The performance sounds great F Word.  At 0.954 you could be a right little bandid!!  We enjoy it when we beat a J109 which is 10 times our budget.

f word to get to your current rating you had her weighed and fully measured, that makes sense as your bo, so, and lwp are hugely different to proper jobs.

one thing i still dont get is the dlr, if this is purely displacement to length ratio then why is it the numbers dont match up, anyone know the answer to this, is their a secret element in this number?  take f words numbers 143kg/m * 7.61m = 1088kg, where is should be 1455kg / 7.61 = 191kg/m

this explains about stix and sssn, corrolation on page 3.  to get a stix number you would need an incline test with the appropriate measurer,  stix was designed for use out side uk waters where national bodies dont accept the non iso sssn.

It sounds like a huge disparity in boat weights is at play. Different keels as pointed out might be an explanation to this???

It seems early boats and latter boats are all just as competitive  as long as you point them and sail them well in the right direction.

At the end of the day weights of boats will vary a lot as they are now 10 odd years old only way to find out is for people to scan certs in as suggested showing all data.

Of course this might also be IRC fudge factor at play causing havoc and heated debate!!!

F word nearly all 762`s have the bow tank. Some built without.

The rowlock on transom on your 762 was installed as an alternative means of propulsion via sculling!!!!
