The point is.... a cherub is not a 12 footer, but is only 12 footish - 3.700m long ( about 12 foot 3inches
also that the length is the 'waterline' length, excluding the snout and an unlimited rudder gantry ( which must also be above the waterline, a bit of fuzzy rule-wording here. ) A bit like a Flying Fifteeen.. that is actually 20 feet long. The radical narrow mothish 12'skiff has had some legality issues re their buoyant planing surface gantry. Moths also have had some issues about this. A cherub is in reality about 15+ foot long, if you include the snout, retracted pole, and rudder gantry / wing tubes past the transom. The overall length has affected boat site fees that are dependent on area taken in the boat park. |

Rob Traditionally, boats described as being 'N' footers were N feet overall, e.g. an Int 14 was 14ft overall, and they were designed without overhangs to maximise waterline length. This meant if you could just get it in your garage, you got the max waterline length boat for your garage. Now we're getting permanently-fitted rudder gantries and whatever which don't count towards the overall measured length, so that a 12ft Cherub now requires roughly the same space as a traditional Int 14 used to. The upshot is that you end up with less than the max possible waterline length boat in your garage, which means that on average you go slower than your garage would potentially permit if the overhangs weren't there or were readily detachable. You did ask me to spell it out! p.s. and you pay more ground rent, as Wight said while i was still composing my reply! Edited by Medway Maniac |

I beleve that the boat above has removable wings. As the dingy parking fees at my sailing club are bassed on the width of the boat that is a good thing The 14's used to have a limit on the max length of the spars so that they could travel on a train for I think 1d The Mirror used to have a two peice mast/gaff so you could fit the spars in the boat. even with all the extra hanging over bits the Cherub is still shorter than most boats and most family cars so will still fit in most garages. if not then just go for a swinging gantry |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right
