Assuming its Kevin's design then no, its not a direct descendant from recent Bethwaite descent. More convergent evolution. The transom, for instance, looks a fair bit like the Italian Bistro Cherub that, although designed by Dave Roe, had some input from Kevin as well. The Bistro long predates the 49er and was designed before any B14s had been seen in the UK. But everyone looks at everyone else's boats anyway...
