He was trying to break the british land speed record and was apparently close to 300mph when he crashed. Only one of the parachutes worked so the car went off the end of the runway into the grass and rolled numerous times.

The prognosis is that the hospital is hopeful he will make a good recovery. That doesn't sound so great...
