I'm not too sure but I remember someone mentioning that R-classes were allowed to race as 12s, although not cherubs. Nuplex and a few other boats race as 12s and think they are designed as R-Classes measured to 13 foot but it could be the other way round, being 12 foot skiffs which race with the R's although Nuplex definately seems a 13 foot boat........

Rs are 3.9m, 12'6 not 13 feet. I have heard, but I'm not certain, that not all Rs are full length. Its possible to build a boat that fully complies to both R and 12 rules, but in any case there's an annual event in which 12s race Rs using the 12 small rigs.

The 12s in Queensland (AUS) have (or had last time I checked) an open dispensation for Cherubs, but not in NZ where the Cherubs are pretty much extinct. The relationships between the classes gets very complicated, and of course rules and dispensations change from time to time.

I'm guessing this is designed for lightweights!!!  With that beam it must be pretty hard to get two average to heavy people out on the strings and still sail sensible angles!  Looking at the chines I guess it also needs to be sailed very flat, unlike a 12.

Looks impressive however, although if it's now got mesh I would not like to capsize it and try and get back in.  How wide is it at the chines?  The racks just look monumentally big, can't decide if it's perspective or the hull is really skinny.

Great pics anyway, any more?

If the boat was eligable to race with the 12 foot skiffs, which there probably would be some objection against, we'd definately be very interested in the boat. Understandably the extra foot in length would give an advantage in displacement mode but wouldn't it be an idea to combine the classes as there would  not be too much difference between the boats and it would be a very good alternative to getting an older boat shipped from Aus. Maybe its just my personal preferance but I prefer the design of the 13 foot boat to the 12 as the 12 does look pretty dumpy hull line wise and also the 13 foot boat looks like it will be a more bow-down plainer than the 12, similar in behaviour to the 49er.  From a glance the initial picture did look like it was a descendant from a Bethwaite design.

Those racks look friggin huge. Certainly a leap. Am I right in thinking that flat wiring would be impossible though for the helm, for the pure reason that the tiller just couldn't be held in that position.

Certainly looks fun though.
