Please could we have free Classifieds on the website?

I'm happy to pay to advertise in the Y&Y magazine (if necessary), but there are now several websites where you can advertise (and successfully sell) your boat for free, so how can Y&Y still charge? The advent of the internet means that Y&Y is no longer the only place you can advertise boats for sale, surely the increased competition should mean that Y&Y website classifieds are free?

I think the way the magazine sees it is you dont pay for the website.
You pay to have your ad in the magazine and having it on the website too is a lovely sugar coated bonus.
I wouldnt be against free ads by any means but I cant see it happening and wont be dissapointed when it doesnt

But the world has moved on.  People don't buy magazines now when looking for something to buy, they browse the net ('cos its free, quick, convenient and up to date-ish).  Therefore, it doesn't make much sense to pay to advertise in a magazine, especially when there are free websites.  I, for one, am happy taking my chances advertising on free sites, rather than paying for the privilege.  Sorry Y&Y, but that's the way it is.

Autotrader works the same way as Y&Y, you pay to be in the mag and get a free internet entry. I think in the long term printed classified will die out but it takes time for a business to restructure the way it makes it's money to that extent.

The old favourites (like Autotrader and Y&Y) are still the place to go if you want a boat or car - I've not had any response to ads on free sites in the past.

Yup, TT's a prime example: he wasn't quite himself before he joined the forum. As BWD's spiritual son, his life is complete!

Everything has to be paid for one way or another - would you rather have this site splattered with ads & pop-ups or pay a little?

I think the balance here is good - a little advertising on the site but not too much (but there are perhaps too many ads that appear as news - JMHO).

Okay, okay, okay.  I'll pay for my classified ad.

I quite agree about the number of 'news' items though.
