Looks like forward rake on the board from the CAD so perhaps it's supposed to look like that!!

Looking at some of the other pics on the R sight it also looks like the 'T' foil mech is housed on the bulb at the end of the foil. Which seems quite a neat idea.

I like this bit also from the R Class article...

"At the next Canterbury R Class meeting the Committee resolved to get on with it and seed-fund the first set of moulds. The aims of the project are to make foiling practical for the Rs and provide class members a cost effective way of getting their boats on foils. Dan went on to finalise the designs, moulds were built, and Sean worked hard to setup the moulds for production. Sean and Dan have since built the first set of foils"

Lessons to be learned there I think.

Does anyone know what the cost implications of the foils are, ie is this likely to be the first foiling doublehander class?
Interesting that while everyone else has been legislating against foils, they've bitten the bullet and dived in there. Although presumably still early days yet.

Well something didn't work quite right....

The first brief flight was in about 10kts

R Class on foils

Sean and Dan were really happy with today achieving liftoff easily in the excellent conditions. Although the flight wasn't very long they were pleased that everything worked as expected. More testing was cut short by the failure of the main foil joint. They expect to be back testing next weekend. Apologies for picture quality.
