Errr..... Sort of...

I don't think I ever have now that I think about it... And the mere suggestion does make her go all anxious.

But then seeing as she wouldn't be there she wouldn't be able to stop me I suppose...If I really felt the need...

My, what a pathetic bunch we sailors have become.  My first boat was bought when I was 10, first overnight camping trip when I was 11.  Second boat at 14, a Swift catamaran which we raced and went cruising for up to 4 days.  Third boat a Finn, at 16, in which I camped and sailed up to 50 miles along the coast to Open meetings.  Did I have safety cover for cruising - no.  Did I capsize, yes lots, mainly when we were mucking about during the holidays, also without rescue cover!

Sounds like some people need to learn to sail properly.

Quite ... grown men needing needing their mum's approval to sail ...

My mum likes to recount the storey of when she went to wake me one morning and I was gone (I was 9).

We had been loaned an Oppy for the week, in the holidays, and I couldn't hold back so got up early (about 6am) cycled to the club and when they found me I was on the water  my smile was soon wiped off my face by my dad.

That said we used to sail all summer long on the sea as cadets with no rescue cover; we just had to tell someone what we were up to and when what time we'd be back ... we were meant to sail in groups but it didn't always happen.

'My first boat was bought when I was 10.'
You started working at a young age.

first overnight camping trip when I was 11.'
On your own? How sad.

Second boat at 14, a Swift catamaran which we raced and went cruising for up to 4 days.
Ahhh... not on your own then, on a very stable boat.

'Third boat a Finn, at 16, in which I camped and sailed up to 50 miles along the coast to Open meetings.'
Good for you. You were 16 and able to get married too.

None of which has any baring on a high performance single handed trap boat for kids at around 55kg if Rick is right on the weight.

Have they got loads of forward rake on the daggerboard, or is it bending like crazy (or both!)
