Its definitly unsafe and stupid to be speeding in town areas where the
possibilities of hitting someone are high, however on motorways and
dual carrigeways speed without getting caught is ok to a limit (ABOUT
100)
So for me, flashed : never! caught : never! License for a year and due to work already done about 18000 miles ![]() Speed can be ok in certain situations, like when on the track! 160+ etc but on the roads it just isnt worth it! |

I would be more worried about the top long slim aluminium torpedo could do if it broke loose during an accident. There aren't many cars that could take a mast full on. Seeing someone impaled on it might change the perspective that towing at 70+ is ok... It is difficult especially on motorways to keep the speed down (unless you have cruise control). When I towed my boat home from where I bought it I had a few hours on mways and had to constantly watch the speedo to keep it at the limit. It is also amazing the number of people who tow without having a safety wire on. Paul |

No need for a cable if the trailer doesn't have brakes. In fact the cable is useless on an unbraked trailer, as its function is to apply the brakes and then snap. Very few dinghy trailers have brakes, even most double trailers come inside the 750kg limit. The thing that really scares me is the state of most people's trailer tyres and wheelbearings. When did you last check yours?? Don't forget, 3 points per illegal tyre! Neil |

I think the law may have changed Neil, all new road based I have seen have a safety wire which is there in case the hitch comes off the ball.
I do agree on the brake dtrailers though, a triple stacker must come close to 750KGs when loaded though. |

"Unbraked trailers manufactured after 1 Jan 1997 must be fitted with a secondary coupling that will provide some residual steering in the event of an unplanned uncoupling. This device should also prevent the ball coupling hitting the ground in similar circumstances. It must be connected to the towing vehicle when the trailer is being towed." http://www.ntta.co.uk/law/trailers/brakes.htm What does this mean then? |

"I own a Ford Ka and want to tow my sailing dinghy but am told that I cannot have a towbar fitted as it would be illegal. Surely not? All cars sold here from the 1st August 1998 must be European Whole Vehicle Type Approved. The vehicle maker decides when he applies for approval if the car will be allowed to tow and the car has towbar mounting points built in to the chassis. The Ka does not have towbar mounting points so a towbar cannot be fitted. It would be illegal to fit one. There are a number of other cars that cannot have towbars fitted so if you intend to tow with a small car ask before buying." From the FAQ on the same site... any Ka owners out there? Towed your boat anywhere recently? |

I got pulled over on my pushbike once by the boys in blue, they were not impressed when I asked them how was I expected to know how fast I was going when cars were still over taking me. |

Hang on whos stupid?? you cant argue, if your caught speeding its your fault for speeding full stop! I believe we could raise the limit to 80 on most motorways and dual carrigeways and im not saying I dnt speed, but at the end of the day its the same as robbing a bank you are breaking the law! Break the law, get a ticket, you cant argue! (thats to any one btw not just you stuart!) ![]() Edited by ssailor |
