what you are saying is essentially the same thing, i do agree with you though, and the way you worded it was more friendly to the designers. But that fact of the matter is, they were ahead of their time, and the majority of the public not being ready for them resulted in a market that is not big enough.

I think the Toger Moth was the wrong shape though. Neither thin nor high speed planing.

It was based on the Magnum moth designs which in their day were very quick.  Just before moths went narrow.  They did plane but very flat and level like modern skiffs.  I seem to recall that the first of the narrow moths appeared at about the same time.  The first one I heard of was Clive Everests experiment with the front 11ft of a Unicorn hull.
