good point on the boyancy distribution, wont help when they fall over backwards on a tack. ![]()
Probably the most sensible thing to say. I cant wait to see it finished and on the water. I think they will have some other trick up their sleaves possibly the little fins I think I remember seeing on the pintail moths before they put them on the rudders |

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

So you want 12's to become a smaller class do you? T foils will add considerably to the cost, not just in the short term ( the actually equipment cost ) but longer term as well. Because they will effect hull shapes dramatically so the well sponsored boats can develop and build new hulls and the old boats are instantly in-competitive. Currently the 12-footers are competitive across the fleet regardless of boat age ( within reason ). What you are suggesting would be very detrimental the the class. All I can say about that new 12-footer is the guys that sail her had better be rock stars or like swimming. |

The other side of the semi pin tail is that the centre of lift downwind is going to be futher forward than other 12s, which in turn means that the crew weight is effectively further aft. And the deep V aft means you don't pay such a penalty for pitching the stern down too far. On the other hand back in the 70s there was a Cherub design with more V at the transom than mid length. Not as extreme as that though of course. The Caisley-Steele 3 (for that was the design) was quick in the light, but vicious in a breeze. This boat is going to be *very* interesting, but I still refuse any predictions. |
