?

Sailings my hobby.

I've just ruined windsurfing for my self again by re -entering the market.

I've had a go at getting Dakine to do sailing stuff, they wont right now,
they are way to busy have too many SCU's (Sizes Colours Units). I have
Dakine Sailing Harnesses here in stock, but they dont look exactly on the
pace although they are very comfortable, I've got a company called All
Good Fun trying them out with one of their riders, I'm not holding my
breath.

And anyway, if it comes from Europe, it'll be costed in Euros which right
now means there is no margin for any kind of distribution.

And after years of helping design stuff for other brands/companies if I
were to get "involved" with anything sailing, I would want to start afresh
with an "own brand".

I also quite enjoy the occasional forum session which you might have
noticed, I do it because I had a serious head injury a while back which
trashed my vocab (I used to be able to write seriously), anyway if I'm not
connected in any way to the business I can at least post away without fear
or favour of being accused of pimping.

There, enough of a reason?

Well at least I have an excuse for being a forum addicted nerd..

I still have an eleven year old daughter, am just recovering from putting
three others through school and uni, so retirement is out for a while yet.

I shall have a look, but from what I can see, the sailing business appears
to be in a worse state than the windsurfing game and I don't see it
improving until a few parties get their acts together, I wonder do they
even talk to each other about what they'd like their future to be?

I'm already committed to entering another "old market" with bad
commercial habits and that's tough enough, so another bunch of die
hards with no enthusiasm left would be too much for me.

Without continued enthusiasm and enjoyment for what you do or sell, is
the death knell for any niche market, and I certainly don't see lots of
enthusiastic business owners clamoring for new products.

hey Jimbo,

I reckon you should bring your phantom down to the Bowmoor six hour race which is spnsore by Lynall boats (who now supply Phantoms, adn sponsor the south west Phantom circuit) Olly is looking for someone with a phantom to do it with!!  Be bloody good fun with plenty of cheap beer, as well as the Fairford airshow going on as well as the races overhead!!!  You may even be able to get old Mr Lynal to look at being a UK distributor for those Gucci toestraps!

*waves hand* I have a Gaastra b.a., got it at the dinghy show last year, it's ver ynice and I've only seen one other person with a similar one.  It's nice, but the velcro waist strap came undone when i was climbing into the dory once, not sure if this is a problem others have with the velcro waist strap?  I almost prefer the old little clip that couldn't come undone.

Now I know that I'll cut you some slack, and apologies for some of my pointed replies.

James, that boat looks most excellent.  We go to the Netherlands pretty often - Nik is half Dutch, so I can see us doing some serious shopping for stuff for the fourteen when we get there (though we're planning to get most of the hardware in Canada).

If you have food supply contacts, can you arrange for someone to start importing chocomelk?

Just a thought, but I'm sure there was a short spell when Gaastra made Topper sails.  From what I remember they were disastrously stretchy.

But that boat looks excellent - I do hope the gadgets are well wired in when it's windy!
the same, but different...

No need to apologise, I can't recall taking offence at anything you or anyone else
for that matter has posted here, if I had, I'm sure i would have responded in
similar vein at the time and anyway I'm fairly thick skinned due to age and short
term memory (I forget stuff real quick ) if i couldn't "take it" I certainly
wouldn't hand it out..
