Corby vs Projection is a bit like £50K vs £10K.  For x 5 your money you get the latest IRC optimised boat and the success that goes with it, but I suggest nowhere near the fun of  P762 offwind in a decent blow.

Pink Gin did beat Gotcha! (Corby 29) in the 2007 IRC SW Championship in mixed wind conditions, which was pretty impressive.  The same boat now races at Helford, so we will see how Big Purple gets on - I guess 5-15 knots windspeed will be really difficult, so lets hope for plenty isobars.

If you are on a sensible budget and looking for an alternative around 0.960, I would think a well optimised 1/2 tonner or 3/4 tonner might be the best all round bet.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the input ..

The Corby 29 = £50k ... and the rest !.  Hull #1 of the 26's is at our club and there was no change of £60k by the time that got in the water. I reckon you could pick up a 762 or two for the cost of a full set of sails for the 29 !

I have looked at the 1/2 tonners .. but I have to be honest the fun of downwind in big breeze on a 762 or a J80 is alot more appealing, and lets face it I am on the West coast of Ireland so we get plenty of wind and big sea here.  If I find the right boat, there is a chance of getting a few people to go for it ... so once again thank you ..

I can certainly concur about the 762 in a blow - the boat is brilliant. We do struggle to go well in that medium bracket around 10knots but every time we get plenty of breeze and a decent sea the boat can be absolute magic. I've raced mine very happily in 30knots in a short east coast sea and the manners are pretty good.

Hello all, I trust that you do not mind me posting here. I own a Projection 920 named Sleeper, fantastic boat I love it. I cannot find much info on the web regarding the 920 class, probably because only four were ever built, however having read through this forum I find many of the issues are relevant to both the 762 and 920 class. I would very much like to post here and offer my views/thoughts and would also appreciate yours, is that ok?

Incidentally I race out of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club  the same as my little sister 762 Zulu

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan

You're thoughts / input are very welcome. I'd love it if you could post some pics of your boat as I haven't seen many pics of them.

Have you sailed a 762? If so, how does the 920 feel in comparison?
