having sailed trapeze boats since i was 10, from conteders and 49ers laser2's 505 fireballs nat 18s hobie tigers etc etc, ive pretty much sailed all types of trapeze boat. the loads when in transitional phase can be huge, plus im not a small guy.  wire to wire can also create huge impact forces.  general walking does hurt very much so, hence why the doc said to stop the high impact stuff.  also the action of over bending the knees is what can cause alot of problems i suffer from.

i am very gutted that i wont get to sail it as it was just going to be a play thing.  but id rather be able to walk when im older, which is why im no longer doing any dinghy stuff.

pm me with sensible offers

Don't give up hope Slop_Idol.  I have bad knees, and had several operations on them, and was told to give up sailing or not walk at 40. Well, I did give up when I was 27 for 12 years and started sailing again (GP's initially, but Merlins now)  about three years ago. So far so good!!

What about taking up helming a single wire two man boat- the helms in those tend not to do much hiking, given that it tends to make little difference compared to the crew's trapezeing

the only dinghy i would sail that has the crew hiking is the nat 18 and you do really have to hike those.  i wont take dinghy sailing off the menu completely, but i will be picking and choosing what i do and when very carefully.

slop_idol,

Talk to some people at the Blackwater Club like the Hare twins or Gareth
Davies or Neil McCulloch. Im sure theres someone there that is crazy
enough to buy it. Its a shame you cant sail it though.

Right time to ditch the Laser then.

I had a knee injury years ago and I am sure the time will come to move over to a trapeeze boat before long.

Hope all is well, for the yachtie stuff.
