hi everyone, im in a bit of fix. i have a old parker 505 and have spent a long time doing her up. resently i took her out of warsash and she filled up. i have no idea where the leak is but need to find it since i will die if that boat does not sail.litrally. anyideas how to find the leak with limited resources? thanks

you could fill up the inside off the boat and see if you can see where the water is coming out, or you could spray the outside with a hose and get another person to look in it to see if they can see any water coming in.

fill the bath up with water and then submerge the boat in the water.
you'll see the bubbles coming up where the hole is.... works with a
bike inner tube, why not a 505?!
![]() on a serious note.... what is the hatch cover situation in your 505? would it be possible to get it a bit wet and then check the hatch covers to at least try and roughly track down the problem to a specific area before it all gets wet. I'd have thought that the main problem areas would be around the centreboard case, around the shroud fittings, and also any fittings which are just screwed onto the deck without being sealed properly. |

When you fill it up, if you don't see water coming out
anywhere, try putting on full rig tension. This happened to us and a (thankfully old) 420 the other day. As soon as we put on tension, we saw the mast had been put through the bottom of the boat, (someone was a bit 'pulley happy'), and the water came pouring out... |

What is filling up - the cockpit or the bouyancy tanks?? If it is the tanks try is - connect the tanks to a bicyle pump and inflate VERY SLIGHTLY - no more than 1 PSI. Mix up some washing up liquid and water in an old fairy liquid bottle - then pour the water over everything and look for bubbles. If it is the cockpit then filling the boat up is a good plan - but again go easy! Normal leaky bits I have come across include self bailers, centre-board pivot bolt, transom to floor joint, center-case to floor joint, mast foot area, hull deck joint (usually only an issue if you capsize), bouyancy tank drain bungs... Have you put the boat in the water again since this outing? |

Best device is one of these two way pumps. Its a good idea to set it to suck air (this keeps the pressure the right way) and lisen for any immediate hissing around the gunhules. My 505 used to leak cronically and took ages to find the leak. Also, when you were sailing, did you capsize or tip the sides in, if not, it may be worth looking along the keel band. btw, what sail number is it? |

hi everyone, thanks so much for the replies. i think im gona try the fairy liquid one first and then if i cant find it with that the pump. my sail numbers K8048 for the person that wanted to know. its an old parker. picked it up from my old club, the mastfoot shattered though lucky the mast didnt go through the floor.but anyway thanks. it slowly cam consatly into the middle section, between transom and mast foot and then just got higher and higher untill the boat started getting lower and then i was worried we were going down from portmorth to warsash!!!! anything else you'd like to tell me about my 505 would be amazing, anything at all, throw it all at me! cheers |

Don't know much about 505s but favourite culprits if there's nothing really obvious are self bailers or around the centreboard case, maybe even C/B bolt. If you are going to fill the boat up you need to be careful with loading - better to do it on the grass, but then you can't see under the boat!
Hatch cover, Bouyancy tank bungs or fittings into the tank are most likely culprit for leaks (but to get a lot of water in the tank you either need two small leaks or a fairly major one). Most tanks on G/F boats should have some foam in them (probably loose in the tanks) so if you have a major sinking event the boat doesn't actually end up on the seabed. If you put a bit of hose pipe into the bung hole (suitably sealed) you can suck some air out with your lungs. Good Luck ![]() |

Does your 505 have the pipes through the decks for the shoud tensioning? Try putting a piece of neoprene over the outboard end. Its amazing how much water comes down the pipe when you dunk a gunnale. Centerboard bolt's a good shout, plenty of bathroom sealant should do the job. |

or if it has a bung it might have worn out u might have to replace it
