Dougal Henshall's usual careful research has gone into this article, which covers the original topic of the 505 new boat price:

Unfortunately this thread went seriously off-topic, so we have removed a number of posts and locked the thread. While there is debate on transgender athletes within elite sport, some of the posts were offensive. Sailing is a sport which is enjoyed by all, regardless of gender or identity.

Anyway, for those on here who are interested in boats and - to be more specific, the nature of the OP, my article on the topic will go live tomorrow night at 5pm.

Is it that broken? I think we probably have too many classes, but the 50s isnt going to help that... Look at Nationals attendance this year and I think that will probably give the answer, but even looking at some of last year's national attendance, they were pretty good!
- 505 - 26 (21)...
- Aero - 138...
- RS200 - 119 (100)...
- RS800 - 36 (40)...
- Solo - 97 (85)...
- Merlin - 45 (59)...
Bracket number = average over the last 10 years. Where no nationals held, reduced number of years in average, not just zero'd it.
Can't be bothered to look at more, but that's not too bad on numbers vs average for 10 years. My gut says 2023 will be well attended too - if we can afford the fuel to get there...!
After last weekend and the sun forecast for the next 2 weekends, lets stop complaining and get sailing!! Had an amazing sail at HISC last Sunday. 8-15kts, full harbor and a decent course, followed up with a beer on the balcony - Heaven.
...Formatting not working....

To bring this back O/T, what we need is a global prism of delusion, that with one snap of Thanos’s glove transports dinghy racing back to the 1970s … where a 90-95kg time poor 6ft bloke with dubious past sailing experience can be on standby to crew in one of 5o5s regularly club racing 20 minutes from home … at this point beggars can’t be choosers, and we’d really have few pisses to give if this is an all singing, all dancing Rondar special, or a cheap and nasty SE version, rotomoulded out of recycled Chinese plastic face masks

Yep, Lasers, UKLAs or whatever the frig they’re called this week…. and the locals here are even skinnier than midland pond dwellers, so I haven’t even bothered trying to skag a ride.
On a positive, the mountain biking has been beyond my wildest expectation… in that I had none.
I now rent beach cats in the summer to keep my sailing hand in. |
So however 'broken' the UK sailing scene is, it can be worse elesewhere.

Which is a good job as I weight two stone heavier than I did back in 2016 .
