I do like the Stones music but find the theatrics a bit embarrassing... Much happier with the understated stage persona of Eric, Greeny or Gilmour myself.

Gilmour comes across as a tough guy, not saying that in a derogatory way, someone who can look after himself physically and mentally, don't think he would have been amused if a producer suggested a lilac jacket with a frilly shirt, his commanding presence was enough dressing.
Eric? Eric Clapton? Another tough guy. Not sure who Greeny is? Mick Jagger, can't see how he could have been anything other than the camp performer, he isn't without substance though. Edited to change wasn't to isn't, he's not dead. Edited by 423zero - 03 Mar 22 at 10:32pm |

I'm not sure Clapton was tough, he comes across as pretty vulnerable to me, Gilmour similar (though maybe a bit more grounded). Greeny... Peter Green, great player but not an overt showman. I've never been attracted to the showmanship side of it, that's not to say I don't like some of those who do the whole stage show thing (Genisis, Queen, Floyd et. al.) but it has never been a deciding factor, the music is what matters. That said all the strutting and posturing* does detract from the music for me and I'd rather watch Clapton than Kiss...
* There are exceptions, Bellowhead and Tull for example... Edited by Sam.Spoons - 03 Mar 22 at 10:52pm |

Never been interested in Kiss, acdc, black sabbath, Alice Cooper etc, with you on that, wouldn't put the stones in that group though, more of a grungy Bowie than metal.

Yeah, agreed, I've always liked the Stones music though I leaned slightly more towards the Beatles in my youth (and still do TBH) but always found the camp or macho posturing a distraction.

I love Claptons music and he is a music god to me . But he a a also a racist , womanising, covid denier . It could be because of his troubled childhood , after all this sister did turn out to be his mum . But tbh I just think he is a kn@b .

Fair few creative people have issues, not excusing them though.
Never been struck by Clapton, one hit wonder, where would he be now without Layla? Good background guitarist? Last year only music I purchased was The Killers and Cold Play. My YouTube play list includes the Beatles, some Elvis, 'Suspicious minds', 'way down', etc, not all his stuff though. Glenn Campbell, live music from this century. Peter Frampton. Bowie, Doobie brothers, BTO. |
