Probably the same as happened last time to Silicon Glenn.

I had a 'Gem' Windows desktop with an infra red keyboard and mouse, in 1981-2, an Apricot F10, years before Apple and M**rosoft Windows, which went the same way everything goes in the UK, lack of finance, City demand for short term profits or die.

Would I be right in guessing the Club 420s don't pay certain fees to WS or whoever?
Is it a similar situation in some ways?.
Maybe the 'Club Laser' will gain traction over there?

IIRC a 'club 420'   is 'Bosun'ised in build   and  has a simple two sail rig with no trapeze

Supply chains for many things have gone mad. The cost of container shipping has gone through the roof, so presumably lots of stuff is still being shipped. Electronic industries have been particularly affected by the pandemic, and the motor industry shot itself in both feet cancelling a lot of orders in the early days of covid. Some things are on 6 month lead times, things you expect to be held in stock. Some things will not get back to normal this year.

Its the extra time taken in process that gives the increase in cost, but like I say, at club level I would have no issue racing a LP boat. On opens however the boat has to be the same and conform with the ILCA rules, etc.

I quite like the fact there is an entry route to club racing that is more affordable to boost club numbers.
I don't mind racing against LP Lasers at club level.
It wouldn't even worry me if a new, LP boat consistently won.
I wouldn't want anyone I like to pay £4k for a dog of a boat.

Unless we're talking about commercial sailing schools, 'entry route' and 'new boat' or 'four grand' should be kept well apart IMHO. Thee are plenty of £1k Lasers which won't be holding anyone back until they've been racing for at least a couple of years.

For many private owners £4k could be expensive if it cuts off the ability to tap into the learning that's available in open meetings. I've never got involved in Laser opens, but in other classes, the CA training/coaching and open meetings and access to help from Class members wanting to put something back into the class has been a huge help.

Awful lot of stuff 'Out of Stock'.
Even for boats like the Vago.
