I had a gs550 circa 1980 with a sidecar, kept it about 3 years, only almost turned it over once, (first day I had it

For me it would be a mint, original 1981 Suzuki GS1000ET (the one I sold though mine was far from mint by then), A black 1971 UK spec Bonneville 750 (didn't sell that one, it was stolen, I could probably work out the date and catch the b'stards red handed), a Ducatti 998 SP and (just 'cos I love the song) a 1952 Vincent Black Lightning...

I tend to ride fire roads, gravel and farm roads around here.... a bit of single track through the treelines, but nothing too gnarly. It's all about getting out in the open for me and decompressing, so I think the XC options are fairer game than some ballsy weapon with 150+ travel. This is kind of typical up in the Serra Calderona: ![]() |

Time machine? Give me one of those, the things I wouldn't have let go, hmm lets think Vincent Comet, Indian Chief (Beaten Up 1947 with sidecar)62 California Bonnie, '85 Gamma 250 (they're fetching stupid money now, the Mrs wasn't grateful at me accidently wheelying away from a wine bar and dropping her in the road when she was pregnant with our first, bloody things were useless at low end..)I even let my Harley go for silly money not long since ago, needed room for bloody sailing dinghys. #StupidRus Edited by iGRF - 03 Mar 21 at 3:02pm |

Canyon Lux looks rather slick. The big air gang and gnarly downhill jockeys are all about long travel but those (me) who simply like up n down trails short travel light XC does the job a treat. I love my Bianchi Nitron, heading for pension age and not craving e assist on this lightweight as yet.

I haven't regretted selling many things, can't think of a boat, a board or a guitar but I do regret selling two vehicles, my scruffy old MX5 in 2019 and, especially, my equally scruffy 1981 GS1000. Bikes are somewhat easier to restore which could have been my lockdown project if I still had it. If I had a time machine and could reverse one deal that would be it...

I meant this to be about bikes with motors having ordered another due to lockdown boredom, going for that CCM blackout... Never even sat on it, yet paid up front, must be mad, well having mental health issues like millionaire Princes, through not being on the water.

I've just ordered a new MTB after the last one got nicked from a bike storage place.
A Canyon Lux, replacing an Ibis Ripley.
It's the same price as a new Laser. and tbh, totally over-spec'd for my needs and skill level, but the riding around here is insanely good. I will get an eMTB one day, just not yet. I also have a single-speed Charge MTB - 27.5 fattish tyres, perfect for dicking around in the park with the kids and using as my main in-city transport and the odd beach hop. |
