Had this in my email box today.. 'Only' 2500 signatures seems sad.

I haven't sailed at SASC for years, but from what I remember its a small club on a lake next to some major roads and a large hostpital. Quite urban and wind shadowed, but not a bad place to spend some time . I don't recall the club grounds being massive so I can see that losing most of the boat park would likely cause the club to close. I don't get what the council are getting out of closing a long standing club down, as all they seem to be getting in return is a bit more public car park space ? Perhaps a car park will generate more revenue for the council than the sailing club rent ? Not exactly green, sustainable, or likely to improve the health and sporting opportunities of the area so feels a bit, er, stupid. Unless I'm missing something.

It was the first place I ever attended a Windsurfer open meeting at, however unlikely that sounds.
So hence the soft spot and feeling of regret that like my other more local small lake which is under pressure and threat to the sailing fraternity from fish murderers. |

Wasn't around back then, what was it like? Was that when the H2 was designed? April 1978 was the windsurfer open at Sutton. |

Blimey windsurfing at SASC. Braver than me. I did a winter series on the front end of a 505 in the late 70s there, nice club with some lovely people but the pond is one of those lakes where you can have all the points of sailing one the same leg. Rumour had it that anyone who fell in was advised to visit the hospital nicely located next to the pond. Still, there arent many leisure /sporting/outdoor locations in that patch so it's beyond stupid that the idiots at their local council are trying to close them down.

Looking at the satellite image, even if they take half the boat park, they can only gain 24 spaces, probably half a million pounds to do, surprised this has not been stopped.

The planning application shows 47 spaces will be created by takig over the dinghy pound and 135 spaces by taking over the field outside between the club and the road. It does seem rather overkill for parking on what is quite a small recreational area. Edited by Chris_H - 26 Sep 20 at 9:44am |

I am somewhat bothered by the fact that the application has been submitted by Ashfield DC and the local planning authority is, er, Ashfield DC. Judge and jury?
