Under the current Shielding Rules - you weren't forced to.

Life insurance - may well vary by policy - but I can't see they will have a clause that covers it.    Not sure my life insurance which is 20 years old is prevents me taking up fags...

I assume the Phantom Assoc doesn't actually pay staff, and probably works on a volunteers and "election system" that likely has no candidates to actually need an election.  So if people don't feel the committee has served them well, they can always decide to stand for election next time round.

It's also odd to point at government guidance and the RYA when the reason is actually something else (capacity at venue, volunteers, economics with no social, low turnout due to limited social).
capacity at venue/volunteers are only an issue because of current guidelines.  The venue didn't shrink, the committee didn't book the wrong venue.

Phantom sailors will be left scratching their head to what government guidance and RYA advice allows a laser nationals, but not a phantom one.

Will they?

I don't phantom sail. but I  respect any club / class's decision that they can or can't support an event at the current time.   I've spent enough hours on COVID Zoom Calls for a club this year to know - you'll never please everyone in this.

I can't understand why anyone is even contemplating a national championship when the overwhelming majority of clubs have not made a return to their own racing in a form resembling that which took place before the "lockdown".

We all want a return to normality, but we also need to get there at a pace we can cope with.

Has anyone tried to book accommodation in Conrwall this year - it seems to be fully booked including camping. Might be part of the reason.

Our Nationals on 11th to 13th September are still on at RTYC but it is subject to them lining up volunteers for the various roles which I think they have done very kindly using family groups. Our club got back to organised racing a few weekends ago. Went camping for two weeks in Cornwall at end of July and had a great time, locals were delighted to see us! Great to see things return to normal

I think there is an element of personal choice in this given the way the virus seems to have different consequences for different groups of folk. I'm older and relatively at risk, and hence I'm way more cautious than if I was 30 years younger and with a clear medical history. I'll continue to shield until there's a vaccine, so I'm unlikely to want to attend or run events but if the clubs and classes can get volunteers and competitors together from less at risk groups why not as long as they follow the appropriate guidance.

I am on holiday in Wales at the moment, no issues at all, no bad feeling from the locals, just a shock at how many pubs and small shops appear to be gone for good.
