The RYA freely admit its a grey area and that some adult interpretation or the rules/guidelines etc is required
Organised racing for more than 6 boats currently is definitely pushing the 'greyness' though Rabbit type/informal racing is highly unlikely to attract attention and negative comments Organised, publicised, reported on events with published results etc may attract attention Hopefully this will all change very soon. |

I see the problem being public perception, there is a risk that we could bring our sport into disrepute, people can whinge and moan about does this word mean this or that, Joe public won't give a toss about 'word smithing'.

So the crowd gathered illegally on the shore is going to complain about the boats socially distances on the water?
Sounds about right for 2020. I've just been taken off furlough, and in the absence of sailing work will be spending my weekends in a shop for the summer, so racing a moot point now for me anyway. |

Your interpretation seems to hinge on a scheduled, promoted, race taking place over a defined racecourse at a prescribed time not being considered a gathering or meeting. Good luck with that.

No, no and no. You?
I would point out though that earlier in the lockdown the strong advise was to stay home. Yes, exercise once a day was allowed but if you were out on an all day bike ride you weren’t really complying with the spirit of the guidance to “stay at home” even if it was legal. As Fab100 pointed, the law is a blunt instrument but Boris’ advice that evening was very clear. From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home. Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households. That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:
That’s all - these are the only reasons you should leave your home. You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say No. You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home. You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine - and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can. If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings. |

A2Z
Your Boris quotes do not reflect the current situation ? Things have clearly moved on considerably |

Folks, I have given up arguing with A2Z. I suspect he is just one of those people who is always "right". A very vocal minority in the UK seem to be trying to set the rules for the rest of us based upon their own interpretation which is heavily influenced by fear and a desire that we all just crawl under a rock and hide. A while back I decided to just ignore them and get on with my racing because frankly - I do have access to really senior people involved in writing the laws your discussing and I can assure you that there is zero chance that the police will be locking anyone up for sailing!

No, sorry, that was in reference to the earlier actions of some. I agree things have moved on considerably and that doesn’t reflect where we are now. A confusing diversion.
