Title says it all, tell me why it can't be done. For use on my Farr obviously, my thinking being it would minimise hull alteration, I could bag the kite and a dangly pole could be hauled round to one side to assist deep running in light airs which is when I really need a little extra.
Tell me what's to stop me. |

Symmetric or Assymetric?
With an assymetrc kite I guess the problem is that the tack of the kite is likely to be forward of the forestay, so the pole and clew could not be pulled through. If you were symmetric you could look at a twin pole self launching system, but I suspect that you would consider a symmetric kite to belong to the Ark.

I'd consider anything, not limiting myself to assym or sym, I just can't get my head around syms as I've only ever had a go with one once and that was a disaster and I wasn't trying to helm the boat as well. So do you mean I'd need twin dangly poles, what happens to the one not in use I'm wondering, actually thinking about it, that could possibly make sense, no maybe not, no it couldn't work with the pole still attached, no it's got to be some ort of ballooney shaped oversize jib and to function drivers side of the forestay. Any reason you can't fit a big Genoa with a Furler and a jib stick ?

You can use spinnaker cloth to keep weight down, would be easier to operate.

I'm trying to set up an assy on the Blaze, a fixed pole is the easy answer, instead of pulling the pole out you use the same mechanism to pull the tack to the end of the pole. I found a bag very tricky but might try using the downhaul patch instead of trying to haul the sail down with a sheet.
With a fixed pole you could use a cat style pole mounted chute (my Heath Robinson attempts to make a chute have all failed so far through lack of strength) but they are not that easy to find nor are they cheap.

You are sending it back to builders for a carbon foredeck ? Get them to fit a bowsprit at the same time.

As far as I can see, so long as there is no forestay in the way, there is no problem with this.
