It was one of the reasons I got rid of mine, that and the weight of it, I also felt it should have had at least a kite option, a long time ago. Going down the mine probably depends on the mine entrances of which there are many where I sail and I probably wasn't heavy enough nor could get far enough back to stop it, having said all that, I was pretty useless as a single hander helm back when I owned a Blaze it was my first real serious attempt at single handing.

Well, the above statement may present you with a dilemma given your current ride. Trapezing sends some of the weight of the helm down the mast. Whereas hiking does not. So you will have to make some tactical decisions on your 3.7 off the wind in a blow to avoid those mine entrances. Or find yourself a T Foil. For me, I've never had an issue with boats that go mining. In fact, for me, it is a positive. Sailing them is more fun, requires more skill and teaches your far more than a 16ft sled.

Well yes .... but this one is hardly extreme anymore than half a dozen similar boats  - and  have you read the previous stuff here - re spinnaker comment and all ? .... or is that auto 'knee-twitch' of yours playing up again ?  LOL  (Please oh please keep to the stuff that 'suits you' will you..... we know your views already.   Downwind technique in fastish stuff, from what I was told, was never really your thing after all....

Must admit though I did post this photo as a bit of a troll-teaser this morning.  A bit of bread on the surface is all it takes - and so quickly.

Hmm, so far and I've not wired offwind yet, but I've had it planing in waves and it seems perfectly well behaved, it's got a totally different rocker profile to the Blaze which came about during what appeared to be the "All boats should be skiffs like what Bethwaite makes" period.

Still too early to make a definitive judgement what with the fickle winds we've had round here of late, I've had all of five minutes above 8 knots and then I stacked it thanks to that cleat on the mainsheet engaging mid gybe.

Other than that like the Solution, it just feels like my friend, rather than a nasty little git trying to kick me in the nuts when I'm sailing it, so I'm sure we'll overcome, but probably not without some more swims.

profile to the Blaze which came about during what appeared to be the "All boats should be skiffs like what Bethwaite makes" period.

IFMS Topper at the time took a Morrison 14 hull shape and effectively amortized it across virtually every boat they made. Blaze, Buzz, ISO, Spice - etc... etc... so it's not surprising some of these boats were less than perfect.

Which Morrison 14 was shaped remotely like a Buzz?

Well whatever they did, it was a different period to when Farr was messing with this 37 and it's a far more sea friendly rocker and I'm spectacularly surprised as to it's light wind upwind performance, probably down to the gantry widening the gap between the foils and good foils (when they stay down). I just wish for one race where the wind doesn't just give up or switch 180, so I can really find out where it's pace lies in the greater scheme of things.

Ir looks promising, but that string trampoline malarkey looks to have huge potential for trapping feet. If you are as awkward as I am!
