I have a Laser 2, and need some sails for it, having difficulty finding some at reasonable price, does anyone know a Dingy with sails which may fit as an option.

Here's the link for those Trident sails. I don't think the prices are especially out of the ordinary. Trouble you're going to have is that original Laser 2 Sails were less than long lived at the best of times, and there's no real racing fleet to generate slightly tired ones. While a new set of sails is going to cost far more than the boat is worth, any secondhand boat is going to come with clapped out sails anyway.

Get a quote from a bespoke sail maker, R&J sails or Morgan sails etc, just google for sail makers.
Small lofts probably cheaper if you have to go new sail route.

That hasn't been my experience personally TBH but small sailmakers will vary considerably on pricing I'm sure and will probably do a deal if they are quiet too. OTOH having the sails made in China ought, in theory, mean cheaper sails...........

I would think your chances of finding good condition secondhand L2 sails are quite small.
but it's worth asking around. Try a wanted ad on the facebook dinghy bits page? If you just want something to get on the water with, I suppose any jib which isn't too tall to fit the forestay will function, and a main which is slightly shorter in the luff will be OK. It won't be optimum for the bend characteristic of the mast, but it will get you on the water. I've no idea which classes might make good donors. Maybe someone somewhere has a list of the basic dimensions for dinghies? It's easier for yachts as they tabulate all that stuff for rating systems. Otherwise, I fear it's a case of looking at the class rules for any likely candidate. If you can find a class where the sails might fit, (near enough) look at the class association for used sails? One or two sailmakers sometimes deal in used sails. Secondhand dinghies dot com? Cygnus sails will do new 'School' sails cheaper than Trident. |

As the owner of a 'lost class' (Topper Spice) I've often considered this would be a good idea.
I found that that's pretty much the only way at present but many of the most successful classes these days are SMODs and they don't have measurement rules like the trad one design and development classes of old.
Maybe posting luff and foot lengths on the above mentioned fb page would get a result (I'd certainly measure my spare sails...... |

If anybody want's to post dimensions of their sails here (or pm me) I'll try to collate them in a spread sheet and post a dropbox (or some such) link to it.
