Yes, I know this was an error... I'm not one to let this get in the way of daft postings.

Well last time I raced the man in his Blaze he sailed off 1071 and had the brass neck to go home with the chocolates..That wasn't an error, it was lock stock and two smoking barrels.

Rupert

GRF has only recently got into bed with the 'Wood huggers' masonry.  It is thus a true delight to see his other new found forum 'lobbying' for a 'correct' PN for his latest sideboard..... complete with every sort of justification under the sun for it.

As for the rest of us of course we are going to shout 'bandit' at him every time he tries to argue for a 'good' handicap number.  (You can't run with the hare and hunt with the hounds for long really)

Eventually he might just reach the self-awareness - Where all come to realise a 'Bandit' is something OTHER people sail when they beat US.  WE do not sail a bandit - only THEY do that ! Similarly THEY can never really win (even when we go the wrong way) as they have an UNFAIR advantage and/or have already managed to RIG things in THEIR favour.

BTW when GRF had a Blaze (yes he did as well) it was NOT a bandit (see explanation above).  After transfer to another owner it naturally and automatically became a Bandit.  In this universe proof enough for most of this universal truth !

(I'll stop rattling his cage now..... It is just too 'easy'  )  Wink

The wonderful thing about the cvrda is that we happily change handicaps for boats which have been left as original, to give them a chance against boats which have been updated with such things as sails that have shape and masts that bend. We are also happy to make people who have carbon and Mylar on their boats work harder for the chocolates than the actual rig changes might warrant. None of that works with the PY scheme, and it shouldn't. It serves a different purpose.
Looking at it in one way, the cvrda is far closer to the smoke filled room in the way we do things than the PYAG. I don't think Pat,Ed or I have ever been offered a bribe, though. Open to offers, though, grumph!

By the way, GRF, the Minisail Nationals are at Staunton Harold SC on 25/26 June, alongside a cvrda event. It's will be a great chance to see boats with seats racing alongside ones without, and the battened sails compared to the traditional triangle. I have a cunning plan to actually sail my boat a couple of times before then, and maybe even have another go a decent foils. Would be great to see you up there.

Plan may well be to sail in the cvrda fleet too. We would do the Minisail stuff boat on boat, but give the boats with old Nylon sails, thin booms and basic controls a handicap boost in the cvrda system. We can then compare and contrast to see what difference it makes.

Well we all knew the Blaze would go back up once you had moved on to all that 'greener grass' out there Graham  .....  LOL

We'd still like to invite you as a guest to the Paignton Nationals in early June and can arrange a loan boat without too much problem.  Seriously you would be most welcome.  Hartleys are even offering an introductory £ 3k off  for the first ten who order Blazes produced by them at the moment - tempted ?

See you at the show then I guess  ....

If I can sail my boat round the course, in a wind that keeps all other boats ashore, what handicap  do  I get?

It's not so silly a question.. my new boat will be very slow except in a real blow, but it will be survivable in a 6, 7?

I won't know til I try it, but if I turn up and am the only one wanting to race, then I win by default, surely?

Depends on your club SIs. Some clubs have a minimum number of starters for a race to count, and I expect some, somewhere, even have a minimum number of finishers. But for sure you need to finish the race.
