At inland clubs I have been a member of Sunday is always the racing day and Saturday more for training/social sailing.
Since moving south clubs here tend to sail on both days as we are tidally limited so make the most of the water when we have it. |

At Hunts racing has always been on a Sunday with Saturdays kept fro training/cruising and Open meetings.
There are some club events that span the whole weekend and some classes have 2 day events with the Sunday being run in with club racing. Saturdays are always a more relaxed affair with a fair few families and youngsters out sailing, messing around and the like. We do get non racers on a Sunday but the racing fraternity usually out number them significantly.

At Combs, Saturday for training, family sailing and messing about. Sunday for club racing Wed night for racing in summer. GP and Supernova open on Saturdays but Bytes over two days joining in with club racing on the Sunday.
If I call down on a Saturday it is full of people I don't know but the atmosphere is very pleasant.

Saturdays are purely for training or freeriding/sailing/cruising all our events take place on Sunday, club racing in the mornings can't get an afternoon session going unless it's a special event like the Ship Race or an Open Meet.

Saturdays are much much busier than Sundays at our place. Lots of Junior activity, lots of adult training and - just recently - race training that has been attracting up to 20 taking part.
Sundays, on the other hand, struggle to make double figures even in the Summer, with most Sundays lucky to see afternoon races take place as there are so few takers. |

We have a Saturday afternoon series and a Sunday morning series. The Sunday morning series has been the more serious one for many years, and the Saturday one is diminishing.

At my previous club, ESSC, Sunday was always the racing day, with Saturday being used for training, and practice, with now I believe some racing taking place. In Topsham our weekend Yawl racing has generally been on Sundays too, but we are experimenting with alternating Sat and Sun next year to, hopefully, allow a wider range of people to take part.

In winter:
Sunday for traditional club racing- including handicap racing for non-fleet boats. AIUI it varies fleet to fleet which race is the more popular.
Saturday for training, Youth & Junior and Get Racing / Short Course stuff I prefer the vibe on Saturdays tbh... In summer: As above, plus Friday night for Y&J, Wednesday Night for club racing (Lasers still the most popular option by a country mile) Edited by turnturtle - 30 Nov 15 at 3:14pm |

Hi Clive
We have always raced on Saturday afternoons and having tried all sorts of formats for Sundays over the years now use it occasionaly for social sailing and some training days. Most other clubs I know seem to be Sunday mornings. Regards Gordon Phantom 1430 |

Could I please have some insight into whether Saturday or Sunday is busiest at your club, and why.
We struggle to accommodate everyone on Saturdays, but Sunday numbers are much lower. In our case, it is partly that we also have youth and Sailability activities on Saturday, but our Sat gen handicap race is better attended than Sunday class racing too Cheers Clive (FPSC sailing Sec)
